Field trip to Shaqlawa, KRG, Iraq

On December 12, 2019,  as a practical side of the (Structural Geology) for the second stage students, the Department of Petroleum & Mining Engineering arranged  a scientific trip which covered the area between Erbil City and Shaqlawa Town. On both sides of the road there are many rock types belonging to many formations and involving many geologic structural features. Those features were studied theoretically during the first semester because they are important for petroleum and mining engineer.

Visit of Kirkuk Petroleum Institute to our Department

A group of students and staff from the Kirkuk private Petroleum Institute visited our department (Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department). More than 20 students and three academic staff came on February 17, 2020, at 14:00 to the Department and the TIU. In the beginning, they were welcomed by Miss. Kazhan from Student Denary and Dr. Mohammed, the coordinator of the Department. Then, they visited the Petroleum Fluid properties lab which was explained intensively by Dr. Sanger Ahmed Salih, the lecturer of the subject. Second Departmental seminar

On November 14, 2019, a seminar under the title “The Road Map to Scientific Promotion” was organized by the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department and presented by Prof. Dr.  Hamed M. Jassim. In this seminar, Prof. Dr. Hamed M. Jassim highlighted the existing governing laws and regulations which are concerned with all stages of scientific promotion at the higher education institutions in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. All staff of the TIU was invited to the seminar. It took place in room 202, Main Building of the TIU at 15:00 O’clock.

On November 7, 2019, a seminar under the title “Hydraulic Phone calls while drilling using drilling mud” was organized by the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department and presented by Dr. Mohammed Ali Namuq. The guests were staff and students of the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department and staff from the Engineering faculty. The seminar took place in room 325, Main Building of the TIU at 15:00 O’clock on November 7, 2019. More than 15 persons, staff and students, attended the seminar.

Oil Field Trip to (Taq Taq Operation Comany)

On Wednesday 4/12/2019, we performed a scientific trip for the (third stage students, total 27 students) to the (Oil Field in Taq Taq TTOPCO). The staff there welcomed us so warmly. In the beginning, the foundations of safety in a clear and the right way were explained, explaining all the points related to the topic and securing the collection of supplies in terms of (Clothes, Helmets, and Scenes) needed in the field for us. The student centered learning approach is not a new learning approach, however, it is not applied widely in learning institutions in Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The term student-centered learning refers to a wide variety of educational programs, learning experiences, instructional approaches, and academic-support strategies that are intended to address the distinct learning needs, interests, aspirations, or cultural backgrounds of individual students and groups of students.
