The Computer Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU) recently hosted an international workshop titled “Making Business Easier with AI: What You Need to Know” on October 24th, 2024, attracting academics, students, and local business owners keen to understand the practical applications of artificial intelligence in business. The workshop was led by the esteemed Prof. Dr. Bestoun S. Ahmed, a Professor at Karlstad University, who has an extensive background in software quality assurance, applied AI, and trustworthy AI.
This workshop explored how artificial intelligence (AI) transforms the industrial landscape by using processes, enhancing decision-making, and driving innovation. The talk covers real-world applications of AI that are reshaping industries from manufacturing to energy, providing actionable insights into how companies can leverage AI technologies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and stay competitive in an evolving market. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of AI’s potential to revolutionize modern industry and practical ways to implement it.
Dr. Ahmed shared insights on how AI tools can streamline business processes, enhance customer engagement, and drive innovation. The session was particularly beneficial for participants interested in leveraging AI to enhance business productivity and streamline operations.
Prof. Dr. Bestoon has held several esteemed positions across the globe, advancing research in applied AI and digital transformation. He highlighted how AI is reshaping the business landscape and shared his vision for integrating trustworthy AI in industries worldwide.
Dr. Ahmed began his academic career with a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Salahaddin-Erbil in 2004, followed by an MSc from University Putra Malaysia in 2009 and a Ph.D. in Software Engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2012. He served as a research fellow at the Software Engineering Research Group at USM and later held a senior lecturer position at Salahaddin University, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2015. Dr. Ahmed’s experience extends internationally, with a postdoctoral research role at the Swiss AI Lab IDSIA in Lugano, Switzerland, and positions at the Czech Technical University in Prague, where he co-founded the STILL (Software Testing Intelligence) lab. In 2019, he joined Karlstad University as a Senior Lecturer, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2020 and Professor in 2023. His research primarily focuses on software quality assurance, applied AI, and trustworthy AI.
