Tishk International University (TIU) hosted a national workshop titled The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Modern Healthcare Systems on December 2, 2025, bringing together academic staff and students from both TIU and Ninevah University. The session was conducted by Dr. Zaid J. Al-Araji, a lecturer from Ninevah University, who presented a comprehensive overview of how artificial intelligence is reshaping the medical landscape. The collaborative event provided a platform for attendees to explore the intersection of advanced technology and medical science, with a focus on innovation in patient care and hospital management.

The workshop was attended by faculty members and students from both universities, encouraging academic exchange and interdisciplinary discussion. Participants actively engaged with the presented topics, reflecting the growing interest in applying artificial intelligence to real world healthcare challenges.

Dr. Al-Araji opened the workshop by outlining fundamental AI concepts such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Natural Language Processing, explaining how algorithms utilize data to improve predictions and interpret human language. He emphasized that the integration of these technologies is driven by urgent industry challenges, including the rapid growth of patient data, the need for faster and more accurate diagnoses, and the global shortage of qualified medical professionals. The presentation highlighted the role of AI tools in supporting informed clinical decision making under these constraints.

The core of the presentation detailed several transformative applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare. These included advancements in medical imaging and radiology for detecting diseases such as cancer and stroke, the use of genetic data in personalized medicine, and the increasing adoption of robotic systems for minimally invasive surgical procedures. The session also addressed the expansion of telemedicine services and the use of AI in accelerating pharmaceutical research through simulation-based drug discovery.

Towards the conclusion of the workshop, Dr. Al-Araji introduced a proposed intelligent healthcare framework integrating IoT based medical diagnosis with lightweight deep learning strategies. He presented technical architectures utilizing fog and edge computing to prioritize patient data efficiently, while ensuring system security through blockchain and cybersecurity mechanisms. The discussion emphasized that despite challenges such as implementation costs and infrastructure demands, adopting intelligent healthcare systems is essential for improving patient safety and optimizing healthcare resources.

At the end of the workshop, students from Ninevah University were given a guided tour of the Computer Engineering Department at TIU, where they were introduced to the department’s laboratories, classrooms, and learning facilities. The visit provided an opportunity for students to observe the academic environment and technical resources available at TIU.

Tishk International University expressed its pleasure in hosting the guests from Ninevah University and emphasized the importance of such academic visits in strengthening cooperation between institutions. The event concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the shared commitment of both universities to advancing education, research, and innovation in emerging technological fields
