On December 6, 2026, the Computer Engineering Department, in collaboration with the Dean of Students, organized a memorable hiking trip to Safin Mountain for a large group of engineering students. The trip aimed to encourage outdoor activity, strengthen student connections, and provide a refreshing break from academic routines.
The group departed from the university campus at around 9:00 a.m., heading toward Safin Mountain, located near the Shaqlawa district in the Erbil Governorate. Known for its natural beauty and elevation of approximately 1,960 meters above sea level, Safin Mountain is a popular destination for hikers due to its forested slopes, clean air, and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Upon arrival, students immediately began hiking toward a designated camping spot on the mountain. Once there, they set up camp and enjoyed breakfast together, taking time to relax and appreciate the calm environment. The cloudy weather, combined with a light breeze, created a refreshing and peaceful atmosphere that added to the overall experience.
After breakfast, the group resumed hiking and successfully reached the summit of Safin Mountain, marking one of the most rewarding moments of the trip. The hike was moderate in difficulty, making it accessible while still engaging. From the top, students were treated to breathtaking views, offering a sense of achievement and an opportunity to capture memorable photos.
The group later descended back to the campsite, where they shared lunch before spending the afternoon socializing and participating in outdoor games such as football, volleyball and archery. These activities allowed students from different engineering departments to interact, bond, and get to know one another through their shared interest in hiking and nature.
At around evening, the group began their final hike back down the mountain, bringing the day’s activities to a close. The Safin Mountain trip stood out as a well-organized and enjoyable experience that combined adventure, relaxation, and community spirit—leaving students with lasting memories and stronger connections across the department and the faculty.
