Tishk International University (TIU), in collaboration with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Northern Iraq Section and Pulsar Petroleum Company, proudly announces the successful completion of a five-day Well Control Training Course, which ran from August 25 to August 29, 2024. This course was organized as part of the ongoing efforts of the Industrial Committee at the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department at TIU and forms a key component of the department’s commitment to offering industry-relevant training programs.

The Well Control course aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and hands-on experience in the critical area of well control. The first three days were led by Mr. Sameer Younus, Drilling and Completions Supervisor, while the final two days were conducted by Mr. Suwar Subhi, Drilling and Completions Superintendent. Over the course of the five days, more than 50 participants engaged in a comprehensive curriculum that included both theoretical lectures and practical applications.

The training employed diverse teaching methods, incorporating presentations, videos, and hands-on exercises using real data and kill sheets, which are commonly used in well control operations. This practical approach allowed participants to simulate real-world scenarios and apply the knowledge gained in the classroom directly to industry-relevant tasks.

The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees expressing their appreciation to TIU, SPE, Pulsar Petroleum, and the instructors for delivering a highly informative and well-organized program. The course not only enhanced the technical skills of the participants but also contributed to their professional development within the field of petroleum engineering.

This Well Control Training Course is part of TIU’s broader initiative to provide continuous learning opportunities through a series of specialized training programs aimed at fostering stronger connections between academia and industry.
