On Tuesday, February 27th, 2024, a group of 17 students from the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU) embarked on a field trip to the Qarachough Cement Factory, located in the Makhmur district. Led by Prof. Dr. Hamed M. Jassim, the students had the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of cement production firsthand.

Upon arrival at the cement plant at 10:00 AM, the students were warmly welcomed by Cement Factory Manager Engineer Araz Jamal and HSE & Training Engineer Adham Ubeid. The visit commenced with the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure the safety of all participants.

The itinerary included a comprehensive tour of the cement plant, starting with a visit to the quarry. Here, students learned about the extraction process of limestone raw materials and witnessed the crushing of ore before its conveyance to the cement plant. Samples collected during the visit will be utilized for educational purposes in the Mining Engineering laboratory. Throughout the tour, engineers provided insights into the various sections of the cement plant, detailing the production process and laboratory testing procedures. Students gained valuable knowledge about cement production methods and quality control measures.The excursion concluded with a hearty lunch provided at the Engineers’ factory restaurant, fostering camaraderie among students and staff. At 2:45 PM, the group bid farewell to the cement plant, returning to TIU at 3:30 PM.

This enriching field trip not only provided students with practical insights into cement production but also underscored the department’s commitment to experiential learning and industry engagement.
