The Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department at Tishk International University participated in the SPE Summit at American University of Iraq, Sulaimaniyah (AUIS), organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) – Kurdistan Section on 12 February 2026. The summit gathered representatives from 14 universities with active SPE student chapters and aimed to strengthen communication and collaboration among institutions across the Kurdistan Region.
The SPE Summit at AUIS brought together students, academic staff, and international guests in one academic platform. Notably, the event featured the President of SPE, Mr. Olivier Houzé, along with several distinguished international participants. The presence of global SPE leadership added significant value to the summit and enhanced its international dimension.
The TIU SPE Student Chapter actively contributed to the event. As the Faculty Advisor, Mr. Omar Azad attended the summit alongside eight third- and fourth-year students who serve as chapter officers. Together, they represented the department, the Faculty of Engineering, and Tishk International University.
During the summit, the delegation met the President of the American University of Iraq, Sulaimaniyah, and the Head of the Engineering Department. Furthermore, they conveyed the greetings of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Head of the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department. These meetings strengthened institutional ties and reflected the department’s commitment to professional engagement.
In addition, the TIU delegation connected with students and academic representatives from various universities. They discussed potential collaborations, joint activities, and future academic initiatives. As a result, the summit created valuable networking opportunities and opened doors for future cooperation.
Overall, the SPE Summit at AUIS enhanced the visibility of Tishk International University within the regional academic community. Moreover, it reinforced the role of the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department in supporting professional development and student leadership through international platforms.
