PME Department Continues with Hiwa Institute

The Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU), under the banner of its social community projects, embarked on a mission to support the students of Hiwa Institute for the Deaf and Mute. This marks the fourth consecutive year of collaboration, showcasing the department’s steadfast commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

The entire department, unified by a shared sense of purpose, actively participated in this significant initiative. Through the collective efforts of all students, funds were raised to uplift the lives of more than 40 economically disadvantaged students from Hiwa Institute. Notably, the department’s social community projects aim to cultivate a culture of empathy, kindness, and social responsibility among its students.

On December 19th, 2023, TIU facilitated two buses to transport a group of over 15 volunteer students and the children, guided by the dedicated supervision of Mr. Omar Azad and Ms. Shayma Hamza. Both educators played pivotal roles in overseeing every aspect of the initiative, from the inception of fund collection to the thoughtful spending of resources.

The journey unfolded at one of Erbil city’s prominent stores, where students had the opportunity to choose clothes and shoes tailored to their preferences. This personalized touch aimed not just at meeting their material needs but also at fostering a sense of dignity and empowerment.

A charitable individual generously sponsored a wholesome lunch for the students, adding a communal aspect to the day’s activities. The expressions of joy and gratitude from the recipients echoed the success of the endeavour, reinforcing the transformative power of community-driven initiatives.

As department continues its tradition of social engagement, Mr. Omar Azad and Ms. Shayma Hamza stand as beacons of inspiration, guiding students in their pursuit of making a meaningful impact beyond the academic realm.

This endeavour is not merely a one-time event; it signifies an ongoing commitment to building bridges with the community and fostering lasting relationships with institutions like Hiwa Institute. As the academic year progresses, the department remains dedicated to expanding its community service, leaving an indelible mark on the lives touched by their collective efforts.
