The Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering (PAME) of Tishk International University (TIU) / Faculty of Engineering, organized a visit to Hiwa Institution of the Deaf and Mute on January 28th, 2021. The visit was the first step of a year lasting cooperation between our university and the institute. Hiwa Institution strives to educate its students and provide an equal opportunity for them to learn and preserve their right of learning.
A committee consisting of staff members, Mohammed Ariwan Jamal, Nabaz Ali Abdulrahman, and Shnyar Hussein Ahmed, Research Assistants in PAME as well as Omer Azad and Mohammed Falah, 4th Stage PAME students, paid a visit to the institute. The purpose of the visit was to meet with the institute’s staff in person and get more familiar with how they run the institute up close. In the meeting with the principal, the current status of the institute and students were discussed alongside the plans for various types of activities that are going to be held in the future.
On February 22nd, 2021, the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering organized a visit to Hiwa Institution of the Deaf and Mute. The purpose of the visit was to deliver the aid gathered by PAME students and staff to the institute, to assist the students of the institute during their studies this year, and keep them safe from diseases and harm. The items included facemasks for children and adults, sanitizers, and infrared thermometers for body temperature measurements.
The committee consisted of staff Nabaz Ali, Mohammed Ariwan, and Shnyar Hussein, and Fatah Mohammed, and Evin Ghazi, 3rd stage PAME students. The institute was very pleased and expressed its gratitude through an appreciation letter to the PAME Department.
On June 9th, 2021, the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering (PAME) of Tishk International University (TIU)/ Faculty of Engineering, hosted a seminar for students of Hiwa Institution of the Deaf and Mute entitled “Technology Addiction” presented by Mr. Hawkar Hassan Ahmed and interpreted to the students by Hiwa Institutions Staff.
In the morning, TIU buses accompanied the students and staff of Hiwa Institute to TIU campus where the seminar took place. The core of the seminar revolved around modern day addiction to technology and social media. The purpose of the presentation was to educate the students on how to manage their free time and energy and to discipline them in terms of using their cell phones, the internet, social media, and gaming applications. At the end of the seminar, the students participated by asking questions and giving feedback to the speakers. In the afternoon, the staff and students enjoyed lunch together in TIU cafeteria.
Concluding the event, our department provided the staff and students with stationery gift packages including notebooks, pencil cases, pens, and pencils, as well as some education tools such as magnet letters, numbers, whiteboard markers, and erasers to help the institute. Finally, the students and staff of TIU and Hiwa Institute took a group photo together and boarded the buses to go back to Hiwa Institute.
