On December 17, 2024, the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department at Tishk International University (TIU) organized an orientation program and welcoming ceremony for its newly enrolled first-year students. The event was attended by Dr. Sultan Abu-Orabi, President of TIU; Dr. Jwan Jalal, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Dr. Fadhil Ali, Head of the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department; and the staff members of the department.
A Warm Welcome and Comprehensive Introduction
The program began with a welcoming speech from Dr. Fadhil Ali, who expressed the department’s commitment to supporting the students’ academic and personal growth. Dr. Sultan Abu-Orabi then addressed the students, highlighting the university’s vision and dedication to academic excellence. Dr. Jwan Jalal followed with remarks emphasizing the faculty’s support for fostering innovation and professional skills.
After the speeches, Mr. Omar Azad, a department staff member, delivered a detailed presentation on essential university policies and regulations. He also introduced the department’s curriculum, IT services like the SIS student information system, and the various non-curricular activities offered through the Dean of Students, such as sports and music clubs.
The event concluded with a casual gathering where students enjoyed refreshments and a guided tour of the university’s facilities and departmental laboratories. This initiative, organized in collaboration with the Dean of Students and the Marketing Department, aimed to ease the students’ transition into university life and foster a sense of belonging within the TIU community.
