National Workshop on Industrial Rocks and Minerals
The Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU) held a National Workshop on Industrial Rocks and Minerals on November 29th, 2023, at 14:00 PM, in Hall 302-Education Building. The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor, Dr. Ahmad Aqrawi from Salahaddin University-Geology Department in two sections.
Dr. Aqrawi indicated that geological resources like industrial rocks and minerals are extracted for their commercial viability. These materials, utilized in their raw state or as enhancements in various applications, are sorted based on key factors like substitution, synthesis, place, and unit value. Their classification follows alphabetical arrangement and categorization according to their specific utility. Among these resources, the crucial ones serve as aggregate, building stone, and lightweight aggregate. Notably, basalt has recently emerged with a multitude of applications across industries such as cement, ceramics, insulation materials, concrete, and reinforcement.
