As part of the Spring Semester Industry Lecture Program, the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department (PAME) at Tishk International University organized a technical session titled “Extended Reach Drilling: From Well Design to Execution” on May 8, 2025. The event was specifically tailored for fourth-year students enrolled in the Directional Drilling Technology course and attracted a diverse audience of over 30 participants, including university staff, students from various departments, and industry professionals.
The lecture was delivered by Mr. Sameer Younus, a seasoned drilling expert with over 15 years of experience in national and international petroleum drilling companies. With extensive knowledge in directional drilling operations, Mr. Sameer provided a highly insightful and application-oriented presentation.
A Comprehensive Look at Drilling Technology
The session was divided into two main parts:
- The first section introduced the theoretical background of directional and extended reach drilling, covering essential design concepts and engineering principles.
- Following a short coffee break, the second section explored the use of advanced directional drilling design software, demonstrating practical applications for planning and executing complex well paths.
This interactive and informative lecture enriched students’ understanding of real-world drilling practices and technologies. Participants expressed their gratitude to Mr. Sameer and the organizing committee for the valuable learning opportunity, emphasizing how beneficial the session was in bridging academic knowledge with industrial application.
