On Monday, May 6th, 2024, faculty members from the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU) participated in an site visit to the Erbil base of Halliburton Company.This visit was a continuation of the training course that was conducted in partnership with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and Pulsar Petroleum Company. The objective of the site visit was to offer additional hands-on-learning and insights into the most advanced oil industry operations.
Mr. Omar Azad and Mr. Ibrahim Fatih, who represented the department, were joined by professionals from a variety of national and international oil companies that operate in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The programme commenced with a two-hour in-class lecture, during which Halliburton’s representatives provided an overview of the company’s activities in the region and Iraq as a whole. They also discussed operational challenges and demonstrated the most recent technologies that Halliburton has implemented.
The conventional drilling and directional drilling sections, as well as the coiled tubing section, were toured by the participants following the lecture. The tour encompassed a comprehensive examination of the tools and equipment employed in directional drilling and coiled tubing processes. Halliburton provided a one-hour lunch break to conclude the morning session.
The tour resumed in the afternoon with an additional two-hour session, during which participants investigated a variety of departments and equipment. A visit to the logging equipment section and an overview of well-bore acidizing processes and flaring equipment were among the highlights. The second session marked the conclusion of the comprehensive tour.
