On May 16th, 2024, the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU) organized a scientific trip for 2nd year students to the Aqra. The trip aimed to introduce the components of petroleum systems to students and to illustrate the efficient operation of these systems. Further to this, students acquired knowledge regarding oil seeps, the measurement of dip and strike, and various rock types and stratigraphic units in order to establish a strong foundation for their future careers in the petroleum industry.
The students were greeted by Dr. Rzger Abdulkarim Abdula, the instructor for the petroleum geology course, who also provided a concise geological history of the region. He introduced them to the stratigraphic units and demonstrated the oil seepage, which underscored the inefficiency of cap rock in the region. Dr. Rzger Abdulkarim Abdula conducted a Q&A session to conclude this field trip, which was a component of the department’s annual activity plan. Students were afforded the chance to inquire about the components of petroleum systems and the intricate processes that comprise them.
The Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering extends its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff members for their efforts in organising this beneficial scientific field trip and for ensuring that it was a successful learning experience.
