Field Trip to the Modern Surveying Calibration and Testing Labs and United Education Training Centre

On 29th of November 2022, the Department of Petroleum & Mining Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU) visited the Modern Surveying Calibration and Testing Labs and United Education Training Centre (UE). The field trip was organised under the supervision of Ms. Jwan Khaleel Mohammed (Assistant Lecturer), Research Assistants Mr. Omar Azad and Mr. Ibrahim Fatih, with the attendance of 12 second-grade students. The purpose of the trip was to train students and to help them gain experience and improve their knowledge after graduation. The trip consisted of two parts:

1: The trip was set to answer the following question: how can engineers be aware of the safety policies at a workplace? To find out, the calibration laboratories that companies use for calibrating equipment used in oil companies, such as laboratory of length instruments, fluid, temperature, pressure, electricity and strength, were identified and explained by the engineers. Further to this, workshops on calibrating different types of flowmeters and valves were held.

2- In the second part of this trip, a seminar was presented by the HR of UE for the students. They shared guidelines on finding jobs and explained how participating in training courses can improve opportunities in the job market. Students also had the chance to visit the labs the centre utilises for their training courses. This trip helped students link their theoretical lectures to field practice.
