On May 12th., 2022, Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department held a departmental seminar under the title of:
“Engineers and Poetry”. During the time 14:00 – 16:00 In Hall 301 of the main building.
This seminar dealt with the relationship between engineering and poetry and the requirements for composing a poem in addition to the characteristics of a good and effective poem.
It was then followed by a poetry reading session, whereby the presenter ( Professor, Dr. Hamed M. Jassim) presented some of his composed poems during different eras of his life.
The seminar was attended by over 45 participants from different faculties and departments at Tishk International University. The participants were very satisfied with the poetry readings and showed clear admiration and interaction with the presenter and expressed the wish to organize other such seminars in the future.

Short Biography:
Dr. Hamed M. Jassim is a professor & specialist in Mining and Tunneling Engineering. After completing secondary school in Bagdad, he completed the following studies: GCE. A-Level (General Certificate of Education) from Dudley Technical College-England 1972-1973. M.Sc. from Leeds University-England in Applied Geophysics 1976-1977. He joined Baghdad Univ./ College of Eng. /Petroleum & Mining Eng. Dept. in Feb. 1980. He got his PhD from Leoben School of Mines (MontanuniversitaetLeoben)- Austria in Mining Eng. (Specialty Tunneling Eng.) 1985-1990. He worked as a Lecturer and assistant dean at the College of Eng/ Baghdad Univ. from 1980 till 2006. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2005. In 2006, he transferred to Koya University-Faculty of Eng – Geotechnical Eng. Dept. Till September 2016. He was appointed as head of the School of Petroleum & Chemical Eng. from 2010-2013. He was promoted to Full Professor in 2015. He joined the University of Kurdistan Hewler UKH on 1st. of September 2016 till 31 August 2019. Finally, he joined Tishk International University TIU on 1 October 2019.
