The Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department at Tishk International University (TIU) conducted an insightful internal seminar on June 1st, 2025, titled “Mechanical Properties and Material Selection Criteria for Pipeline Construction.” The seminar took place at 10:00 AM in Room 214 and was presented by Ms. Jwan Khaleel, Assistant Lecturer of Applied Mechanics in the department.

Seminar Overview

Ms. Khaleel provided an in-depth discussion on the key mechanical properties essential for pipeline construction, including:

  • Strength
  • Toughness
  • Corrosion resistance

She also elaborated on the material selection criteria critical to pipeline applications in various operational and environmental conditions. Materials such as carbon steel, High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), and composite materials were explored for their unique properties and application benefits across different scenarios.

Interactive Session

The seminar concluded with an engaging Q&A session, during which participants shared questions and perspectives, contributing to a productive and interactive academic atmosphere.

The Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department continues to promote such academic activities that enhance both teaching and learning, ensuring students and staff stay informed on practical industry-related topics.
