On 12 May 2026, the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department at Tishk International University continued its social community service project with the HIWA Institute for Mute and Deaf in Erbil. The department has supported the institute through several activities in recent years, and this year’s initiative focused on improving the institute’s facilities and providing educational support.

This community service project at TIU was represented by the department staff member Mr. Ibrahim Fatih along with three senior students from the department. During the visit, the team carried out two important activities that directly support the institute and its students.

First Activity

First, the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department continued its fundraising efforts for the HIWA Institute. Throughout the academic year, students organized several donation and food fundraising activities to collect financial support for the institute. As a result, the department identified one of the institute’s major needs, which was the installation of a security camera system. Therefore, the visiting team brought a technical team from a camera system company to inspect the institute and evaluate the required installation work for both indoor and outdoor monitoring systems.

Second Activity

Second, the team delivered copies of the Holy Quran translated into sign language. The Union of Islamic Religious Scholars in Kurdistan provided these special copies through the support of the department staff member Mr. Omar Azad. The department gifted the sign-language Quran copies to the institute so that students and members of the institute could benefit from them.

Moreover, the visit strengthened communication between the department and the institute and highlighted the importance of supporting community needs through academic initiatives. The department also confirmed that the project will continue until the security camera system installation is fully completed.

Through this community service project at TIU, the department continues to support social responsibility, student engagement, and inclusive community development. This activity also supports SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by promoting inclusive educational support and sustainable community collaboration.
