Scientific Cooperation with the University of Alabama, the United States

Dr Ayad M. Fadhil Al-Quraishi, Professor of Applied Remote Sensing and GIS at the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, College of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU), has been invited as a visiting professor to the University of Alabama (UA), Tuscaloosa, United States for the period from 17/07/2022 to 30/08/2022. The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the UA invited him to conduct collaborative research with them at the UA. During his six-week visit, Dr Al-Quraishi also addressed the development of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for scientific and cultural cooperation between TIU and UA institutions for the next five years.

The potential MoU includes student and staff exchange, participation in conferences and workshops, and establishing joint scientific projects between the two universities. The agreement also includes implementing scientific research and sharing available scientific resources. The six-week visit also included meetings with the University of Alabama’s Provost, Jim Dalton, and the College of Arts and Sciences Dean, Professor Joseph Messina.

Additionally, several meetings were held with department chairs and faculty members from various departments to discuss their involvement in all scientific activities at TIU University. Dr Al-Quraishi also delivered a presentation at the University of Alabama’s Water Research Institute on the applications of remote sensing and geographic information systems in the field of the Iraqi environment.
