A scientific geological trip was organised on May 23rd, 2024, in accordance with the annual plan of the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU) for the academic year 2023-2024. The Shaqlawa district, located to the east of Erbil City, was the destination of this trip, which was organised for first-year students. The goal was to provide students with an understanding of the geological structures and features that are present along the Erbil-Shaqlawa highway. This includes a variety of rock types in geological units (layers), bedding planes, joints, and faults.
The trip was supervised by Dr. Shwan Omer, the Instructor for the General Geology Course that was taught during the spring semester of the first year. He extended a warm welcome to the students and provided a comprehensive account of the geological history of the region, elucidating its significance in the field of petroleum engineering.
The staff of the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering is deeply appreciative of the management of this beneficial scientific field trip and their dedication to guaranteeing its success as an educational experience.
