As part of its ongoing series of internal seminars, the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU) organized a seminar titled “Tunnel Design Methods: Quantitative Approach” on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.
Led by Professor Dr. Hamed Muhammed Jassim, the seminar delved into the intricacies of tunnel design, focusing on quantitative methods for optimal results. Professor Jassim elucidated key concepts such as the Rock Mass Rating (RMR) method and the Tunneling Quality Index (Q-System), providing insights into their application in real-world scenarios.
Participants, including 23 attendees from various engineering departments, gained valuable knowledge on rock classification, excavation methods, and support systems essential for tunnel construction projects. Professor Jassim also highlighted notable tunnels worldwide, offering practical examples of successful implementations.
The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to further explore the subject matter with Professor Jassim.
