International Workshop: Application of reservoir management and production forecasting tools using IHS Harmony Software
On November 23rd, 2021, the Petroleum and Mining Engineering Department arranged an international workshop titled “Application of reservoir management and production forecasting tools using IHS Harmony Software”. This workshop focused on the theories and practical applications of Rate Transient Analysis, Decline Curve Analysis, Type Curve Methods for optimizing oil and gas production and enhancing reservoir management. During the workshop, IHS Harmony software was demonstrated.
The workshop consisted of two sessions:
Session one titled “Reservoir management and production forecasting” was presented by Mr. Frzan Ali.
Mr. Ali is a petroleum engineer with 7 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He has worked as MWD/LWD with Schlumberger company in Russian Federation and as Production Engineer and Reservoir Engineer with HKN Energy company in Iraq. He has a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, specializing in Reservoir Engineering. Mr. Frzan teaches petroleum engineering modules at Tishk International University.
Session two titled “Application of IHS Harmony software for reservoir management and production forecasting” was presented by Mrs. Silvia Rey Gomez. Mrs. Gomez is the Associate Director for Engineering Customer Solutions in EMEA at IHS Markit. Throughout her career, she has specialized in Drilling, Reservoir Engineering, and Project Management with the completion of international projects in Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Silvia is a certified trainer for Decline Analysis and Rate Transient Analysis, with over ten years of oil and gas experience. Silvia holds a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering and a master’s degree in International Business Management.
The workshop was conducted in 302 Conference Hall, Education Building, Tishk International University. In the meantime, the workshop was broadcast online with more than 30 participants joining online (mainly lecturers from different universities in Iraq and abroad with engineers from different oil companies). 15 TIU staff joined the workshop on campus with 92 students from the second, third, and fourth grades of the Petroleum and Mining Departments also participating.
At the end of the workshop, a period was assigned for discussion between both online and on-campus participants. In general, the participants provided positive feedback by stating that they learned and enjoyed the sessions significantly.
