Field Trip to KAR Group-Khurmala Oil Field

As part of the departmental activities designed to enhance the students’ experiences, third-grade students of the Petroleum and Mining Engineering (PAME) Department, Faculty of Engineering  at Tishk International University (TIU) went on a scientific field trip to KAR Group Company-Khurmala Oil Field, located about 35 kilometers southwest of Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, on December 11th, 2022.

Thirty-one students participated in the field trip, supervised by Mr. Mohammed Ariwan, Ms. Esra Sami, and Ms. Shnyar Hussen. Students and staff were transported from the university campus to the field at 09:30 AM. From there, the company busses accompanied the students and staff and gave them company tours. The trip included: 

  1. Safety Induction and Training 
  2. Firefighting Training 
  3. Lunch Break 
  4. Well-site visit to one of the producing wells and surface facilities which had been producing for about eight years. 
  5. Visit to Gas Process Station (GPS) Explanation on Flow Total and GPS site. 

The trip aimed to familiarise the students with field life, comparing the subjects they have taken theoretically with available facilities in the field, including completed wells, Christmas tree configurations, pipelines, GPS units including various separators, crude headers, multiphase flow meters, gas flares and many more. The field trip ended at 3:30 PM, and students and staff returned to the campus at 16:00.
