Second National Innovation Contest in Engineering (NICE 2016) was hosted by Tishk International University Engineering Faculty on May 16, 2016. NICE is a groundbreaking Engineering competition open to higher education students in Kurdistan Region. Project competition was held in three main categories: Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering and Architecture Engineering.
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Öztaş Tishk International President, Asst. Prof. Muhammad KhoshnawPresident of Lebanese French University, Asst. Prof. Kawa Sherwani President of Erbil Polytechnic University, Deans and Heads of Departments of the universities that participated honored the Hosts with their presence.
Opening Ceremony was held on the university premises. The event started with the national Anthem of Kurdistan and the inauguration speeches by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Öztaş President of Tishk International University, Dr. Duran Kala Dean of Engineering Faculty, and Mr. Adel Lateef Mawlawi Manager of View Poineer Company who was the sponsor of the event.
The aims of the competition are to explore the ability of the students, and provide a platform for the students to present their projects to the markets and exchange ideas on the developments in the field of engineering. 114 projects were presented by 220 students. The competition was held among fourteen different institutes and universities of Kurdistan that are (listed alphabetically as) American University of Sulaimani, Cihan University, Cihan University Sulaimani, Erbil Technical Engineering College, Erbil Technology institute, Erbil Technical Institute, Hawler Technology Institute, Tishk International University, Koya University, Lebanese French University, National Technical Institute, Salahaddin University, University of Kurdistan-Hawler and University of Sulaimani. The organization provided students with a chance to establish communication with each other in order to discuss their current work as well as to be encouraged in future projects.
The aim of the contest is to improve the creative ability and scientific thought of students, as well as the thoroughness, skill, and clarity shown in their projects and to help the growing of future scientists.
