Seminar on Accessibility for Disabled People at Peshmerga Park, Erbil
On Wednesday 13th of April, 2022, the Architectural Department, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University organized an internal seminar on Accessibility for Disabled People at Peshmerga Park, Erbil. The seminar, presented by Dr. Salem Almukhtar, aimed to evaluate the extent of the availability of disabled people’s requirements in Erbil parks and to study the reasons for the lack of requirements and facilitation for disabled people in public areas.
The study presented the main obstacles that disabled people face when they visit Peshmerga Park. Around 40% of observed items contradict disabled people’s requirements and the main reason is the lack of local standards that serves their needs in buildings and open spaces. During the seminar, discussions between the presenter and participants on the research findings, and Dr. Salem explained how this study encourages further comprehensive research on other parks and public areas across the city.
