Reciprocal Frames Training Course
In collaboration with the Department of Interior Engineering Design, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU), organized a two-day Reciprocal Frames Training Course on November 26th-27th, 2023. The event, which was organised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sabah Shawkat from the University of Bratislava, Slovakia, was centred on the incorporation of tensegrity principles into architectural structures, with a particular emphasis on the development of designs that work in harmony with natural forces.
Throughout the training, participants examined the artistic and technical dimensions of the multifaceted concept of tensegrity. Dr. Shawkat clarified the practical applications of this innovative design approach in the creation of forms and structures that are both lightweight and resilient, thereby illuminating the inherent challenges associated with it. The objective was to enhance comprehension of unconventional architectural practices, with a particular focus on the discovery of form.
The Architecture and Interior department’s students and faculty members were both actively involved in the construction of physical models, which demonstrated the functional and aesthetic benefits of incorporating lightweight materials into interior design. Not only did these hands-on activities illustrate the tangible attributes of each component, but they also facilitated the transition from theoretical concepts to practical use in structural design.
The primary objective of the course was to enhance the practical skills of participants and foster a thorough comprehension of the process of integrating technical design expertise with creative vision.
