The 6th edition of the National Innovation Competition in Engineering was held in Tishk  International University Campus, 19th May 2021. This edition of the competition was titled ‘Targeting Smart Sustainable Innovations’.
NICE aims to break new ground and create a platform that brings together a diverse, young group of undergraduate engineering students from all over Kurdistan and Iraq to showcase their innovative and sustainable solutions to the most pressing challenges facing the region to expert judges, to help foster interest and action toward creating more efficient, sustainable and smart solutions. The competition has been designed to empower the next generation of Engineers across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and to motivate the young generation to serve their society. The event provides an opportunity for students to put theory into practice, taking a part in building smart, sustainable future.
A variety of projects from different national universities participated in the competition; more than 100 projects were presented by around 300 students from different fields of study, such as Architecture, Interior Design, Civil Engineering, IT, and Computer Engineering.

The Head of Board of Trustees of Tishk International University started the opening ceremony with a welcoming speech and highlighted the importance of this competition for the educational community in the Kurdistan Region. Later, as the participants started presenting their projects to the jury and visitors, the Head of the Architecture Department, Mr. Haval Sami, and the rest of the academics that were jury members, toured around the exhibited projects. The promising innovative designs of the participants created a tough competition between the contestants.
After the lunch break, the jury committee members gathered in a meeting to decide the winners and announced them in the afternoon during the closing ceremony.
Tishk International University’s Architecture Department collected the top winning awards of the NICE competition. The Department is very proud of the hard work done by its students and academics, and wish to see further success in the near future.
