Tishk International University is proud to announce that the graduation project of Architecture Engineering graduate Basma Yasir has been selected among the Top 50 international graduation projects in the prestigious Tamayouz Excellence Award 2025 – Architecture Graduation Projects Award.

Titled “The Rise from Ruins: Redevelopment of Hosh Al-Baieaa,” the project focuses on the revitalization of one of Mosul’s most significant historic districts, which suffered extensive damage during the ISIS occupation between 2014 and 2017. The proposal aims to restore and redevelop Hosh Al-Baieaa and Suq Al-Shaareen, including historic churches, heritage buildings, a school, and the traditional commercial strip, while preserving the area’s unique cultural and religious identity.

The project emphasizes the importance of heritage conservation as a catalyst for social recovery and urban regeneration. By reconnecting historic churches and mosques through shared public spaces and pedestrian pathways, the design promotes coexistence, unity, and intercultural dialogue. In addition, the proposal introduces green spaces and sustainable urban solutions that enhance environmental quality while respecting Iraqi heritage regulations.

Drawing inspiration from the area’s rich Syriac, Byzantine, and Assyrian architectural heritage, the project carefully balances preservation with contemporary urban needs. Through adaptive reuse, sustainable design strategies, and community-focused planning, the proposal seeks to contribute to Mosul’s economic recovery, strengthen tourism potential, and preserve the historical legacy of the city for future generations.

The project was completed under the supervision of Ms. Seema Al-Faris, whose guidance and expertise played a significant role in the successful development of the proposal.

Tishk International University extends its heartfelt congratulations to Basma Yasir on this remarkable international achievement and wishes her continued success in her academic and professional journey. The university remains committed to supporting innovative projects that contribute to heritage preservation, sustainable development, and the advancement of architectural excellence.
