On Monday, June 15, 2026, As part of the Interpersonal Dynamics and Character Building (IDCB) course, students from the Architecture Engineering Department at Tishk International University organized a project entitled “Women’s Reformatory Book Drive”

The project aimed to support women and teenagers residing in the local women’s reformatory by providing them with new and engaging reading materials. The target group often has limited access to educational and recreational resources, making reading one of the few available activities for personal development and leisure. Through this initiative, students sought to contribute to the intellectual growth and well-being of the residents while helping them spend their free time in a positive and meaningful way.

The idea for the project was inspired by a resident psychologist who identified the urgent need for updated reading materials within the reformatory. Recognizing the importance of access to knowledge and personal enrichment, the student team worked together to raise awareness about this issue and to collect books that could make a lasting impact on the lives of the residents.

This project was closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, which promotes inclusive and equitable access to learning opportunities, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, which focuses on supporting vulnerable and marginalized groups within society.

The initiative was 100% self-funded, with all expenses covered through contributions collected entirely by the team members. Throughout the project, students demonstrated strong commitment, teamwork, communication, empathy, leadership, social responsibility, and community engagement.

By participating in this activity, students were able to apply interpersonal and organizational skills in a real-life setting while making a positive contribution to the community. The experience enhanced their understanding of social responsibility, sustainable development, teamwork, and the importance of serving those in need.

Tishk International University continues to encourage students to engage in meaningful community service initiatives that promote positive social change and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
