In a dedicated effort to advance practical learning and prepare students for future technological challenges, the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU) held the Future Makers Robotics and 3D Printing Essentials training course from September 29 to October 2, 2024. The program was specifically designed for Grade 12 students, equipping them with essential knowledge and hands-on experience in mechatronics, robotics, and additive manufacturing.

Course Highlights

The training introduced students to the foundational principles of mechatronics and robotics, emphasizing the integration of mechanics, electronics, and programming. Key topics covered included:

  • Introduction to Mechatronics: Its fundamental role and applications at TIU.
  • Robotics Fundamentals: The basic principles of robotics and their industrial applications.
  • Key Components: An overview of essential components such as sensors, actuators, and microcontrollers.
  • Microcontroller Applications: Practical, hands-on experience using Arduino.
  • 3D Design with CAD Software: Designing robotic prototypes using CAD tools.
  • 3D Printing: The core principles and applications of additive manufacturing in prototyping.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the program, students successfully:

  • Gained a solid conceptual and practical understanding of mechatronics and robotics.
  • Acquired hands-on skills in assembling and programming simple robotic systems.
  • Learned to design and prototype components using CAD tools.
  • Gained practical exposure to additive manufacturing (3D printing).

This initiative proved significant in enhancing the students’ technical knowledge while fostering critical skills like problem-solving, creativity, and innovation. The course served as a crucial step in preparing future engineers to engage with emerging technologies in robotics and digital manufacturing.
