As final examinations approach, the Civil Engineering Department at Tishk International University (TIU) successfully hosted an impactful seminar titled “Time Management Strategies and Career Development for Civil Engineering Students.” The event reflects TIU’s ongoing commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education), by enriching the academic environment with practical mentorship and essential life skills. The seminar featured guest speaker Engineer Hozan Himdad, a proud alumnus of the TIU Civil Engineering Department, who delivered an informative and motivational address tailored to students across all academic grades. With finals around the corner, Mr. Himdad shared actionable strategies for maximizing study habits, boosting academic focus, and managing time effectively during high-pressure exam periods.
Beyond immediate academic preparation, the seminar actively bridged the gap between the classroom and the construction site, aligning with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). Mr. Himdad emphasized the importance of connecting theoretical knowledge with real-world industrial applications. He highlighted the evolving expectations of the modern engineering sector, noting that technical competency must be paired with strong communication, teamwork, and professional responsibility. Using real-life examples from major infrastructure projects, Mr. Himdad gave students a firsthand look at workplace dynamics, modern engineering technologies, and the competitive edge required to thrive in the construction industry after post-graduation. This forward-thinking approach directly supports SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by preparing future civil engineers to seamlessly transition into the labor market and contribute to sustainable economic development.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Barham Haydar, Head of the Civil Engineering Department. He expressed his immense gratitude to Mr. Himdad for returning to his alma mater to share his valuable insights and meaningful contributions to the students’ development. As a token of appreciation for his time and expertise, Dr. Haydar presented Mr. Hozan Himdad with an official certificate of appreciation on behalf of the department. Furthermore, the Civil Engineering Department extended its sincere gratitude to the seminar organizers for their flawless execution of the event, as well as to the students whose enthusiastic attendance and engagement made the seminar a resounding success. Reiterating the seminar’s core message, Dr. Haydar encouraged students to look beyond academic grades alone and actively cultivate the practical, professional, and sustainable skills necessary to meet current and future global market demands.
