Scientific Trip to IBERIA Ready-Mix Concrete
The Civil Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University, organized a scientific trip for 2nd-grade students, held on March 8th, 2022, under the supervision of Mr. Halmat Muslih and Mr. Usama Ismail. Students visited two branches of IBERIA Ready-Mix Concrete, one of the largest companies in the area.
During the 1st part of the trip, students visited the branch near Baharka Road, where Engineer Mohammed Nadir, QC of IBERIA Ready-Mix Concrete, welcomed the group of students and showed them the materials that are used in concrete. He explained the importance of each material and how the quality of each will affect the concrete if not applied according to standards. Students also had the opportunity to link the theory studied in university on the precast part on the site to be more familiar with the types of materials and way of casting.
After the session, students were taken to see the factory and to learn how concrete is produced in the company and how the materials are mixed with the additives of concrete. Students observed the stages of concrete preparation on the site, from mixing to casting. Eng. Mohammed also provided students an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the concrete process.
After completing the tour of the 1st branch, students accompanied their supervisors and the company’s engineer to the company’s main branch, located on Gazna Road near Ankawa. There, Eng. Mohammed and the staff explained the tests of the concrete and standards and explained the procedure to decide on the acceptance or rejection of the test. He also applied the test to allow students to discover the practical procedures involved and understand the results. Students tested two concrete cubes for compressive strength and observed the processes in detail.
