Egg Protection Device Competition 2022
Tishk International University– ACI Student Chapter in cooperation with ACI Kurdistan Chapter completed its 3rd annual competition with the University of Raparin and University of Duhok Student Chapters. On March 29th, 2022, the “Egg Protection Device Competition” was successfully held at Tishk international University.
The objectives of the event were to design and build the highest-impact-load resistant plain or reinforced concrete Egg Protection Device (EPD). The competition also aimed to enable students to learn and report on concrete’s sustainable benefits related to durability, impact resistance, and other real-life aspects that an EPD simulates.
In this competition, teams were challenged to design and build the highest-impact-load resistant reinforced concrete frame within the exact specifications set out by ACI. Underneath the frame, there’s an egg that faces certain destruction due to the load applied to the reinforced concrete frame. Any crack in the frame might destroy the egg. The weight drops from a half-meter at first and is then released from ever-increasing heights until it reaches maximum. This year, 19 teams participated in the competition from different universities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq at Tishk international University- Erbil Campus.
Winners were chosen according to durability and performance categories. The first, second third, fourth, and fifth place teams received cash awards of $600, $400, $200, $100, and $100 respectively.
