Dr. Barham Haidar, Head of Civil Engineering Department at TIU invited as guest lecture by Bauhaus University of Weimar

On August 22, 2024, Dr. Barham Haidar, Head of the Civil Engineering Department at Tishk International University (TIU), participated as a guest lecturer at the Bauhaus Summer School, organized by the Chair of Advanced Structures at Bauhaus University of Weimar (BUW). His insightful lecture was an introduction to Progressive Collapse in Reinforced Concrete Structures, where he shared research on retrofitting existing buildings to resist progressive collapse.

Dr. Haidar’s lecture also focused on a case study of a war-damaged building in Mosul City that demonstrated resilience against progressive collapse. This study is part of a collaborative project between TIU’s Civil Engineering Department and BUW’s Chair of Advanced Structures and funded by DAAD, showcasing the value of international cooperation in addressing real-world engineering challenges.

The Bauhaus Summer School is an internationally renowned program that attracts faculty, M.Sc., and Ph.D. students from around the world to exchange ideas and develop collaborative research projects. This year’s theme, NextGen Engineers 2024 – Advanced Training Courses for a Sustainable Tomorrow, brought together participants from over 50 countries, highlighting the future of engineering and building connections for global collaboration.

The Civil Engineering Department extends its gratitude to the Chair of Advanced Structures at BUW for their invaluable support and collaboration, enabling TIU faculty and students to actively engage in this prestigious event. The department looks forward to further strengthening ties with BUW and exploring future collaborative projects.
