Dukan Dam

Scientific Trip to Dukan Dam 28/03/2018

A scientific trip was organized by Civil Engineering Department to DUKAN DAM.  Students of class three and two participated. Students are accompanied by the head of civil engineering department; Mr. Barham Haidar, Prof. Dr. Bayan Salim and Assistants Mr. Halmat and Mr. Shkar. The teaching staff of the department was welcomed by the director of Dukan Dam Mr. Hama Tahir and responsible of the hydraulic structure of the dam Mr. Salam. Mr. Hama Tahir gave historical information about Dukan dam construction. Then, Mr. Salam made a tour to the dam and introduced each element of the dam to the students. So, students got an idea about how dam build and in which place need to be built. Students could find a relation between the theory part where they have taught in Hydraulic class and the practical part in the field. They got enough information about construction DUKAN DAM.  The following paragraphs contain information about DUKAN Dam, some of the information are notes have taken by the student during the explanation of the guidance.

The Dukan Dam is a multi-purpose concrete arch dam to provide water storage, irrigation, and hydroelectricity located in As Sulaymaniyah GovernorateIraq. It impounds the Little Zab, thereby creating Lake Dukan. The Dukan Dam was built between 1954 and 1959 whereas its power station became fully operational in 1979. The dam is 360 meters long and 116.5 meters high and its hydroelectric power station has a maximum capacity of 400 MW.
