The Civil Engineering Department at Tishk International University (TIU) proudly announces the participation of 40 students, members of the ACI TIU Student Chapter, in the Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition hosted by Duhok Polytechnic University on December 8, 2025.
The event brought together teams from eight universities across the region, providing a competitive academic environment focused on innovation, structural efficiency, and practical engineering skills. Under the supervision of ACI TIU Student Chapter Faculty Advisor Mr. Halmat Muslih, and with the guidance of Ms. Payam Ismail and Mr. Abdullah Hasan , TIU students demonstrated outstanding teamwork, creativity, and engineering judgment.
After rigorous testing and evaluation, the TIU team successfully secured 3rd place in the competition, marking a notable achievement for the university and its Civil Engineering Department.
The Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition is designed to simulate real-world engineering challenges, requiring students to design and construct bridges using limited materials while maximizing load-bearing capacity and structural efficiency. Such competitions enhance students’ understanding of structural behavior, load distribution, material optimization, and design constraints, all of which are essential skills for future civil engineers.
Participation in events like this also strengthens students’ problem-solving abilities, collaboration skills, and professional confidence, while bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Moreover, representing TIU in regional academic competitions reflects the university’s commitment to experiential learning, student engagement, and engineering excellence.
The Civil Engineering Department and ACI TIU Student Chapter extend their appreciation to Duhok Polytechnic University for hosting the event and congratulate all participating universities. TIU remains committed to encouraging its students to actively engage in academic competitions and professional activities that contribute to their academic growth and future careers.
