4th ICAD International Conference on Architecture & Interior Design

In collaboration with the University of Mosul, the Architectural Engineering Department and the Interior Design Department, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU) successfully hosted the International Conference on Architecture and Interior Design (ICAD 2023), held on November 28th-29th, 2023 in Erbil, Kurdistan Region-Iraq. The conference, focused on Contemporary Built Environment Challenges in the Middle East, emerged as a pivotal forum for delving into the latest developments in architecture and interior design.

The conference was chaired by Mr. Nawaz Dabagh. ICAD 2023’s rich program included presentations, workshops, and keynote speeches from public figures from the academic, architecture, and engineering world. Notable figures such as Assistant Prof. Dr. Salahaddin Yasin Baper, Head of the Architecture Department at Salahaddin University, and Dr. Muthana J. Al-Bayaty, a scholar and well-known architect designer with a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, graced the event with their expertise.

Highlights of the conference included Dr. Sabah Shawkat’s examination of “Free and Complex Shapes” in contemporary architecture, blending aesthetic allure with practical utility. Dr. Sherif Farag’s insights into the restoration of the Al Nouri Mosque exemplified a harmonious fusion of historical respect with modern architectural approaches.

A particularly noteworthy session titled “Heritage and Artificial Intelligence” featured specialists including Prof. Dr. Husein Ali, Asst. Prof. Dr. Emad Hani Al allaf, Dr. Dara Yaqoobi, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sahar Basil Mahmud Al-Qaisi. This discussion centered on the intersection of AI with cultural heritage preservation, emphasizing its role in evaluating and managing ancient structures and cultural data.

ICAD 2023 stood as a beacon of intellectual exchange, fostering a blend of innovative ideas with traditional insights in the fields of architecture and interior design. The knowledge and research shared are slated for publication in Al-Rafidain Engineering Journal (AREJ), ensuring a wide-reaching and enduring academic impact.
