3rd Grade Scientific Trip to Grand Majidi Mall

On October 19th, 2023, the Interior Design Department, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU) prepared a scientific trip for 3rd grade students to Grand Majidi Mall, in relation to their Interior Design Studio Course, held under the supervision of the Lecturers Ms.Aysha Rashid and Mrs.Rawaz Najmadin, and Research Assistant Ms. Sara Mahmood.

The primary aim of the excursion was to study key sectors within various components of the commercial complex. A focal emphasis was directed towards the zones housing showrooms and shops, encompassing an in-depth examination of furniture distribution, adherence to human-scale dimensions, spatial configurations, colour palettes, accessories, and intricate design details. Upon arrival, the managerial personnel extended a courteous reception to both staff and students, and organized an expansive tour of the entire mall, elucidating diverse sections within the complex.

Pedagogical guidance during the tour constituted a detailed discourse on pivotal design considerations, encapsulating an exhaustive exploration of both positive and negative dimensions inherent in the design paradigm. An interactive engagement model was fostered, prompting students to actively document the visit through photography while accumulating pertinent data essential for the subsequent preparation of a comprehensive report. The educational facet of the visit was augmented by instilling practical knowledge concerning the acquisition of as-built measurements and fostering an understanding of the design’s contextual variability contingent upon end-users.
