The Interior Design Department, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University organized a National Workshop entitled Health Safety and Environment in Workplace on may 9 2024. The workshop was presented by Dr. Hassan Hassoon AlDefi and aimed to bring together engineers from various engineering departments, specialists, environmentalists, and staff from other departments to participate in an interactive discussion and share ideas.
The term “Health Safety and Environment in the Workplace” describes the protocols, guidelines, and rules implemented to guarantee the health and safety of workers, guests, and the surrounding area at a workplace. It includes attempts to reduce the negative effects of operations on the environment as well as steps taken to prevent mishaps, illnesses, and injuries.
Occupational safety and health are an area concerned with protecting the safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work or employment. The goals of occupational safety and health programs include fostering a safe and healthy work environment. Safety plays an important role towards the protection of human life, company property and surrounding community. Safety enhances efficient running of business i.e. the productivity as well as corporate image. These days health hazards at workplaces attract more attention because of the potential harm associated with the employee’s exposure and the monetary cost attributed to a single cause. Thus, everyone wants a safe and healthy workplace for proper operation and productivity of the employees. Therefore, health and safety at work is aimed at creating conditions, capabilities, and habits that enable the employee and the organization to operate efficiently and in a way that avoids events that could cause them harm. Traffic congestion, local power generation and the recent growth in oil and gas production has increased or renewed some longstanding concerns over their impact on the environment, while also giving rise to some new concerns. In this presentation, the following objectives are to be met: Factors that influence the health, safety and environment of the workplace and environment at large will be highlighted. • Spreading awareness, hence; recommendations are to be placed for consideration in the workplace for improving productivity in healthy, and safe built environment.
