International Workshop on Free Form Geometry in Architecture Spaces

The Department of Interior Design, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University, organized an International Workshop titled Free Form Geometry in Architectural Spaces. This workshop brought together staff members from various departments, including the Department of Interior Design, Architectural Engineering, and other departments in the faculty. The event took place on Sunday, May 14, 2023, and was presented by Assoc. Prof. Sabah Shawkat, a renowned Structural Designer in the field of fine arts.

Assoc. Prof. Sabah Shawkat delivered a comprehensive presentation that delved into the concept of tensegrity within structural design, emphasizing the principles of designing based on different shapes and forms rooted in tensile structures. The workshop aimed to explore the liberation from conventional geometric forms and encouraged the exploration of novel design approaches. Moreover, Prof. Shawkat provided valuable insights into the process of model-making and the discovery of innovative forms. The workshop was structured in two sessions: the first session comprised a live presentation by Prof. Shawkat, elucidating the workshop’s subject matter, while the second session featured video demonstrations showcasing the utilization of physical models. These demonstrations showcased the potential and aesthetic allure of tensile structures for interior design, underscoring the importance of visible and constructive models that rely on the seamless functioning of all constituent parts.

Throughout the workshop, a dynamic exchange took place between the attending staff members and Prof. Sabah Shawkat, as questions were posed and discussions unfolded. This intellectual engagement fostered a deeper understanding of the workshop’s content and allowed participants to gain valuable insights from the presenter.
