On 24 February 2026, the Interior Design Department at Tishk International University (TIU) organized an academic visit to Erbil Youth Hub at Erbil Avenue for Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3 students. The visit was attended by the Head of the Department, Mr. Dlman Aziz, along with Assistant Lecturers Mrs. Fayza Bakr, Mrs. Rawaz Najmadin, Ms. Aysha Rashid, and Mrs. Zaynab Azad. The department was also represented by Research Assistants Ms. Aisha Asaad, Ms. Marwa Rizgar, and Ms. Sara Mahmood, who accompanied the students throughout the visit.
This educational initiative was organized as part of the department’s commitment to strengthening experiential learning and connecting academic study with real-world practice. Erbil Youth Hub, known for its modern and creative environment, provided students with a valuable opportunity to explore a contemporary interior space designed to support youth engagement, collaboration, and innovation.
During the visit, Mr. Dlman Aziz and the academic staff guided students through the space, encouraging them to carefully observe the layout, circulation paths, lighting strategies, furniture selection, materials, textures, and color schemes. Discussions were held on how interior design elements contribute to user comfort, productivity, and social interaction. Students were motivated to analyze the space critically and reflect on how such concepts can be applied to their own academic projects.
The purpose of the visit was not only to expose students to a successful design model, but also to inspire them with new ideas and creative perspectives. By experiencing the Youth Hub directly, students gained practical insight into how flexible and well-designed interiors can foster innovation and teamwork. They were also encouraged to view the space as a future resource — a place where they can study, collaborate, conduct research, and develop ideas beyond the university environment.
The atmosphere throughout the visit was interactive, engaging, and inspiring. The presence of the Head of Department, assistant lecturers, and research assistants reflected the department’s strong support system and dedication to student development. Such academic activities strengthen the bond between staff and students while promoting creativity, professional awareness, and community engagement.
This activity aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting experiential and practical learning opportunities; SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by exposing students to inclusive and community-focused interior environments; and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by enhancing students’ professional skills and preparing them for future career opportunities.
The Interior Design Department at TIU continues to organize field visits and practical learning experiences that broaden students’ horizons, bridge theory and practice, and prepare them to become innovative and responsible interior designers who contribute positively to society.
