The Interior Design Engineering Department, under the Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University, successfully conducted a national workshop entitled “Sustainability in Architecture and Its Role in Shaping Local Contexts” on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. The event marked a significant contribution to the ongoing academic discourse on sustainable architecture and underscored the department’s commitment to fostering environmentally responsible design education.
The workshop brought together a diverse audience of students, faculty members, and design professionals, all eager to engage in critical dialogue surrounding sustainability’s evolving role in contemporary architectural practice. The central focus of the session was to explore how sustainable design principles can be thoughtfully integrated into architectural solutions that are sensitive to local cultural, environmental, and economic conditions.
We were honored to host Eng. Zhyar as the guest speaker, a distinguished professional known for his work in sustainable design and environmentally responsive architecture. In his comprehensive and engaging presentation, Eng. Zhyar addressed the theoretical foundations of sustainability in architecture and shared practical examples drawn from his professional experience. His lecture emphasized the importance of context-sensitive design strategies, energy-efficient technologies, and material selection in reducing environmental impact while enhancing community resilience and cultural identity.
The workshop featured an interactive Q&A session that allowed participants to discuss case studies, raise questions about real-world challenges, and consider how sustainability can be integrated into local urban development frameworks. This interactive component encouraged active participation and fostered a collaborative learning environment.
In addition to enriching students’ academic knowledge, the workshop served as a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and professional growth, aligning with the university’s broader mission to advance educational quality through real-world engagement and knowledge dissemination.
