On October 9, 2024, fourth-grade students from the Interior Design Department at Tishk International University (TIU) went on a scientific trip to Maryamana Hospital in Erbil. The trip was part of their Interior Design Studio VI Course and was supervised by lecturers Mrs. Aya Shukri, Mrs. Aseel alhusainat, Mr. Sulaiman Mustafa, and research assistant Ms. Snoor Abbas.

The main objective of the trip was to give students a closer look at the key design aspects within different hospital departments, including the Cosmetic Department, NICU, Emergency, Eye Department, and Cardiovascular Department. They focused on elements like furniture distribution, human-scaled dimensions, spatial arrangement, color palettes, and other design details crucial for a medical environment.

Upon their arrival, the site managers gave the staff and students a warm welcome and provided a comprehensive tour of the entire hospital. The lecturers guided the students, discussing important design elements and highlighting the positive and negative aspects of the hospital’s interior.

The students actively participated by taking photographs and notes, which will be used for their detailed report. This hands-on experience also helped them develop skills in as-built measurements and deepened their understanding of how user requirements influence design decisions in specialized environments like hospitals. The trip was highly beneficial, providing a tangible link between classroom theory and real-world professional practice.
