Orientation Day for Aviation Engineering Students at Tishk International University

The Aviation Engineering Department at Tishk International University recently held an insightful and engaging orientation day for its incoming students attended by the President of the University, Professor Sultan Abu Orabi who actively participated in explaining the university processes and welcoming the new studentts. The event was meticulously designed to equip new students with essential information, introduce them to the academic and administrative processes, and ensure they have all the resources they need for a successful journey at the university.

The day kicked off with an introduction to the department, its vision, and the opportunities available for students. The Head of the Department (HoD), Assist Prof. Dr. Soorkeu Abdulwahab, welcomed the new cohort of students to giving them an overview of the university’s academic culture, the significance of aviation engineering, and the expectations for the students during their time at Tishk. This session set the tone for the day, emphasizing the importance of hard work, discipline and commitment to excellence.

In the next session, the HoD outlined the various university policies that students must adhere to throughout their academic journey. Topics covered included attendance regulations, examination policies, academic integrity, and general conduct. Students were encouraged to familiarize themselves with these policies to ensure a smooth academic experience and avoid any misunderstandings.

The HoD emphasized effective communication as an essential element for academic success, and in this session, the HoD provided students with a comprehensive overview of the various communication channels at the university. This included information on how to access and use the university’s official communication systems, including announcements, emails, and notices. Students were urged to stay connected and regularly check their emails for updates on schedules, assignments, and other important information.

The Department Coordinator, Mr Ahmed Ameer, provided detailed information about the university’s digital tools and systems. Students learned how to navigate essential platforms, including:
* SIS System (Student Information System),
* Course Registration: A step-by-step guide on how to enroll in courses,
* Add/Drop Processes: How to modify their course selections when necessary,
* Passwords and Security: How to manage passwords securely,
* Grades and Transcripts: Accessing academic performance records,
* TIU Email: Managing official email communication,
* Lecture Notes and E-Learning System: Accessing course materials and online learning resources.

The session provided students with practical knowledge on how to streamline their academic processes and efficiently use university resources.

M. Ahmed Abdulkareem, an assistant lecturer, took over for the next session, who introduced students to various aspects of university life beyond academics. This included a detailed introduction to:

* Student Council: The role of the student body in enhancing student experience,
* Clubs and Societies: Opportunities to engage in extracurricular activities and develop leadership and teamwork skills,
* Career Center: Guidance on internships, job opportunities, and career planning.

Additionally, M. Ahmed Abdulkareem encouraged students to actively participate in extracurricular activities, fostering a sense of community and personal development outside of the classroom.

The final session of the day was led by Mr Shamal, who provided an overview of the university’s essential student services. These services ensure that students have access to the necessary support systems during their time at Tishk International University. Topics included:

* Student Affairs: The support available for student welfare and general inquiries,
* IT Services: Assistance with IT-related problems and support for digital tools,
* Accounting: Information about tuition payments, fees, and financial services,
* Dining Services and Cafeteria: An overview of meal options available on campus,
* Sports Facilities: Information on the university’s sports programs and facilities for recreational and competitive activities.

This session aimed to ensure that students are aware of all the services available to them, helping them feel comfortable and supported throughout their studies. The event ended with a modest lunch invitation and a group photo.
