National Workshop on Sustainable Aviation and Aircraft Structural Material

The Aviation Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU) was delighted to host a National Workshop on Sustainable Aviation and Aircraft Structural Material on May 23rd, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Mr. Ahmed Mohammed, Research Assistant from the Aviation Engineering Department formally opened the workshop, and introduced the guest speakers to the attendees. The workshop was comprised of two sessions, separated by a fifteen-minute break.

The first session was delivered by Dr. Soorkeu Abdulwahab, Head of the Aviation Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering at TIU. During this session, Dr. Soorkeu explained several topics about Sustainable Aviation and covered the following:
  • Basics of sustainability and sustainable development goals
  • Environmental, economic, and social dimensions of aviation
  • Introducing the significant entities in aviation (ATAG, IATA, ICAO)
  • Applying sustainability insights to:
    • Aviation Design
    • Technical Progress
    • Life Cycle a\Assessment (LCA)
    • Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)
    • Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)
  • Reference to sustainability in additional sectors of aviation
The second session of this workshop was delivered by Ms. Rasha Al Kabbanie, Head of Accreditation Department and QMS Coordinator at TIU. During this session, Ms. Rasha explained innovation in aviation structural materials and covered the following topics:
  • Significance of new material mix such as in 3D printing.
  • Producing parts and applying mechanical testing
  • Possibility of using the new material in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV)
Towards the end of the workshop, the audience had the chance to pose questions about the topics discussed during the sessions.
