10th International Engineering Conference (IEC2024)
Tishk International University and Erbil Polytechnic University hosted the 10th International Engineering Conference (IEC2024) under theme of “Innovative Engineering Solutions for Sustainable Development” on October 23-24, 2024. IEC2024 is technically sponsored by IEEE and IEEE Iraq Section. The conference aimed to disseminate research findings and provide a platform for scholars to debate and exchange ideas on the developments in the field of engineering. The accepted papers will be indexed by IEEE Xplore Digital Library Database or EAJSE journal. Furthermore, the conference provides our undergraduate and graduate students a chance to establish communication with experienced researchers to discuss their current work as well as to be engaged in future research topics, and new opportunities.
This year’s program committee comprises 90 distinguished members, of whom 85% hold Ph.D. in engineering fields relevant to one or more conference topics. Adhering to international conference standards, the event is held in accordance with guidelines agreed upon with our IEEE technical partners and the regulations established by the Kurdistan Ministry of Higher Education. All submissions undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review by at least three committee members to ensure compliance with essential quality standards. These include relevance, timeliness, novelty, technical correctness, presentation quality, and the suitability of references used.
The conference receives 82 submissions from several countries, including Iraq, Tunisia, Jordan, Iran, Syria, Malaysia, Germany, the Philippines, Pakistan, India, and the UK.
The conference attracted over 200 attendees from 10 different countries, contributing to a diverse exchange of ideas and innovations. A total of 82 research papers were submitted, with 53 papers accepted across all tracks, leading to an overall acceptance rate of 74.3%.
IEC2024 featured notable keynote speeches from three internationally acclaimed experts in engineering:
- Prof. Dr. Bestoun S. Ahmed Al-Beywanee, a respected professor at Karlstad University, Sweden, and a pioneer in software quality assurance and trustworthy AI, delivered a keynote titled “Making Business Easier with AI: What You Need to Know.” Since joining Karlstad University in 2019, Prof. Ahmed has held several esteemed positions across the globe, advancing research in applied AI and digital transformation. He highlighted how AI is reshaping the business landscape and shared his vision for integrating trustworthy AI in industries worldwide.
- Prof. Dr. Abdelazim M. Negm from Zagazig University, Egypt, presented on “Towards a Competitive Water Industry in the Digital Transformation Era.” Prof. Negm, with over 400 research publications and 50 book chapters, is recognized globally for his expertise in hydraulics and water resource management. His address delved into the importance of digital transformation in advancing water industry practices, urging professionals to adopt sustainable innovations in water resource management.
- Prof. Dr. Amin Abbosh of the University of Queensland, Australia, delivered insights on “The Evolving Field of Electromagnetic Imaging (EMI) at Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Frequencies for Non-Destructive Testing and Imaging.” As the leader of the EMAGIN team, Prof. Abbosh’s groundbreaking work in electromagnetic medical imaging and microwave technology has impacted both the telecommunication and healthcare industries. His presentation explored the potential of EMI technologies to revolutionize non-invasive diagnostics and enhance the precision of imaging applications in multiple sectors.
The conference was structured across several thematic tracks, with parallel sessions running on both days to allow participants to explore a wide range of topics. The event is organized into six tracks:
- Computer Engineering and Information Technology
- General Engineering and Applications
- Digital and Wireless Communication
- Construction Engineering
- Environmental and Hydraulic Engineering
- Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering.
Tishk International University expresses its heartfelt appreciation to all participants, speakers, and sponsors (Hemn Group, Vana Group, and Clever Scientific Company), especially IEEE, for their invaluable support in making IEC2024 a remarkable success.
