The 3rd International Engineering Conference on Developments in Civil & Computer Engineering Applications took place in Erbil, Iraq between February 26 and 27, 2017. The conference was organized jointly by TISHK University and Erbil Polytechnic University.

The International Engineering Conference on Developments in Civil & Computer Engineering Applications (IEC2017) is the interdisciplinary forum for the presentation of new advances and research results in the fields of Civil and Computer Engineering Applications.

The first day of the conference was held at Erbil Polytechnic University and second day at Tishk International University. The conference started with welcome speeches by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Oztas President of Tishk International University and Assist. Prof. Dr. Kawa Sherwani President of Erbil Polytechnic University.

We were delighted to organize the panels to hear what the technology gurus and researchers will share about the technology advancements and their impact on our society and daily lives. During the conference, three panels were held in order to advance and contribute to specific research areas in the majors of Civil Engineering and Computer Engineering.

The first panel was about the Engineering Education titled “Contemporary Approaches to Engineering Education in Developing Countries” and organized in collaboration with IFEES (International Federation of Engineering Education Societies) and GEDC (The Global Engineering Deans Council), chaired by Dr. Hans J. Hoyer (Secretary General of IFEES, Executive Secretary of GEDC).

Other panelists were Prof. Dr. Ahmet Öztaş (President of Tishk International University), Prof. Dr. David Scott (Department of Civil Engineering, Curtin University, Australia), and Prof. Dr. Ibrahim I. Hamarash (Vice President of Salahaddin University-Erbil).

The second panel was about “Sustainable Construction” chaired by Dr. Botan Majeed Asinger (Dean of Erbil Technology Institute, Erbil Polytechnic University) and consists of the members of Prof. Dr. Bayan Salim Al-Nu’man (Civil Engineering Department, Tishk International University), Asst. Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Khayat (Head of Architectural Engineering Department, Salahaddin University), and Asst. Prof. Dr. Hassan Hassoon (Mechanical and Environmental Engineering, Tishk International University).

The last panel was about “Big Data for a Smarter Society” chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Iyd Eqqab Maree (Erbil Technical Engineering College, Erbil Polytechnic University). The panelists were Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Kattan (Information Technology Department, Tishk International University), Asst. Prof. Dr. Tara Yahiya (Computer Science and Engineering Department, University of Kurdistan Hewler), Dr. Saman Mirza Abdullah (Head of Higher Education and Scientific Affair Unit, Koya University), and Dr. Halit Vural (Dean of Engineering Faculty, Tishk International University, Erbil).
We were also delighted to organize two plenary sessions covering the different areas of the conference: Dr. Dirk Jankowski (CEO, AJG Ingenieure) talked on “Fire Safety in Civil Engineering” and Asst. Prof. Dr. Tara Yahiya (University of Kurdistan-Hewler) on “Fog Networking: A key Enabling for 5G and IoT”. Lastly, we had a seminar presented by ACI (American Concrete Institute) – Iraq Chapter.
Finally the conference was a forum for the demonstration of new improvements and research results in the fields of civil and computer Engineering. Tishk International University earned $3800 only from the articles submitted to the 3rd International Engineering Conference.
