On 7th-8th of February 2018, Tishk International University in collaboration with Salahaddin University organized the 1st international conference on architecture and interior design under the theme of “Targeting Sustainability and Heritage”.

The opening ceremony was held at the beginning of day 1, by Dr. Idris Hadi (President of Tishk International University), in which he explained the Tishk International University system, the big jump of Tishk International University Ranking both nationally and internationally as well as the future Tishk International University plans.

The aim of the conference was to encourage people to use sustainable development in architecture and interior design, to establish a base of knowledge of the architectural heritage in Kurdistan and to inform people about the policies and strategies of restoration and rehabilitation of historical buildings in Kurdistan.

Papers presented in the conference covered the topics of: architectural heritage, ecological architecture, environmental engineering, sustainable architecture, green buildings and rehabilitation of historical buildings, sustainable materials and material technology and, smart houses.

Prominent international and national professors attended and participated in the conference.

Keynote speakers were two outstanding professors of Architecture: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marc Belderbos at the Faculty of Architecture LOCI at the UCLouvain Belgium and prof. Dr. Alan Dilani, recent lecture at Melbourne School of Design reflects a growing area of research, which is shaping the future design of healthcare environments,

Video conference technique was used to present the valuable presentation from Prof. Dr. Alan Dilani on “Healthy Environment”, who discussed the sustainable approaches and proposals to improve Erbil city planning for future.

Sessions were held on schedule, which were mostly indebted to Sustainable Architecture. Three panels were held on “culture heritage and architecture, architecture and environment, and sustainable architecture and environment”. These had been attended by large audience who were interacted and exchanged thoughts with the researchers and the panelists.

A closing ceremony was held at the end of day 2, in which the chair of the conference Dr. Halit Vural announced the closing of this successful conference
