The Department of Computer Engineering, has organized a workshop entitled “5G Implementation Challenges in Kurdistan & Iraq” during the 7th International Engineering Conference (IEC) on Thursday, February 25th, 2021 and was held virtually through ‘Run the World’ video conferencing platform.

The workshop was presented by Dr. Salar Kheder Shaikhah from Erbil Polytechnic University and Dr. Jamal A. Hassan from Salahaddin University.

The first session started with Dr. Shaikhah, in which he presented an overview on the 5G cellular network architecture and some of the key emerging technologies that are helpful in meeting user demands. Dr. Shaikhah also highlighted the steps necessary to prepare the market for the possible launch of 5G network.

The second session of the workshop was presented by Dr. Hassan and focused on addressing and highlighting the challenges that need to be overcome to enable the successful rollout of the network services. Performance issues and network complexity were also addressed, along with the infrastructure issues facing the deployment.

The workshop was concluded by a set of suggestions to help lay a roadmap for a smooth transition to 5G technology in the Kurdistan and Iraq.
