Tishk International University (TIU) is proud to announce that, for the third consecutive year, faculty members and fourth-year students from the Department of Civil Engineering actively participated in the prestigious <\/span>Bauhaus Summer School 2024<\/span><\/strong>, organized by Bauhaus University of Weimar (BUW) in Germany. The program, themed “NextGen Engineers 2024 \u2013 Advanced Training Courses for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” was hosted and organized by the Chair of Advanced Structures at BUW. It brought together participants from over <\/span>14 countries<\/span><\/strong> to exchange ideas, foster global research collaborations, and build networks to address the engineering challenges of the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

The TIU team\u2019s involvement is part of the project titled \u201c<\/span>Towards Earthquake Mitigation in Iraq: EMS-98 Adopted Vulnerability Assessment of Existing Buildings<\/span><\/strong>,\u201d funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (<\/span>DAAD<\/span><\/strong>) under the <\/span>Ta\u2019ziz Short-Term Measures 2024<\/span><\/em> program. This initiative plays a vital role in enhancing earthquake preparedness in Iraq, with a particular focus on the Kurdistan region. During the summer school, TIU faculty and students received advanced training in the <\/span>European Macroseismic Scale (EMS-98)<\/span><\/strong>, a widely recognized framework for assessing the vulnerability of buildings to seismic events. The knowledge and skills acquired will be applied in Kurdistan, where the team will conduct building assessments as part of ongoing efforts to mitigate the risks posed by future earthquakes.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the academic and technical training, the Bauhaus Summer School offered participants extensive social and cultural exposure. With representatives from over 14 different nations, TIU faculty and students had the opportunity to engage with peers from diverse backgrounds, fostering intercultural communication and the exchange of ideas. This international exposure not only enhances professional growth but also broadens participants\u2019 perspectives, helping them become well-rounded global citizens.<\/span><\/p>\n

The experience was further enriched by exploring the beauty of Weimar, a city renowned for its cultural and natural heritage. TIU participants had the chance to visit historical landmarks, engage with the local community, and immerse themselves in the scenic landscapes of Weimar. This unique combination of academic enrichment, cultural exchange, and natural beauty made the Bauhaus Summer School an unforgettable experience, leaving a lasting impact on both students and faculty alike.<\/span><\/p>\n
